RESUMO:
ABSTRACT: The purpose of the study is to show the coverage of product design practices in sustainability problems and to verify how the recent literature treats the theme in terms of completeness. It starts with the assumption that product design is an embracing tool present on innovation in many aspects. From this point on, using the Mess Mapping tool, it first attempt to show the relevance of design practices in sustainability as a wicked problem. In a second step, it verifies the presence of sustainability as a target inside of product design innovation by reviewing the existent literature from the last ten years. The expected contributions are three. First, to highlight the potentially holistic impact of product design in sustainability problems, since some key sustainability aspects are systematically pursued during the innovation processes. Second, to identify key up-to-date criteria to innovative product design with sustainability and for last, to promote a discussion in order to perpetuate the necessity of consolidation of sustainability in its main aspects during the innovation processes.
